June 17 Board Meeting Recap: Two Directors Appointed, Questions Remain
The June 17, 2026 Board Meeting began approximately 25 minutes late after only two directors arrived on time.
During the meeting, President Rosy Fernandez announced that Stonewood is seeking a new landscaping company. She also announced that two members, Daniel Abarca and Sherie Hauret, had been appointed to fill two of the Association's three vacant board seats. Following the announcement, both individuals were invited to join the board at the front of the room.
Several members asked questions regarding the appointment process. Specifically, members asked how candidates were evaluated, how the appointments were made, and what process the board used to select the new directors.
No explanation was provided regarding the appointment process was provided, with the exception of explaining that the board mailed letters to eleven members inviting them to consider serving on the board. No information was provided regarding when those letters were sent, who received them, or how the final selections were made.
Members also asked about the remaining vacant seat. President Fernandez stated that another individual who received one of the letters is prepared to join the board but recently lost his mother, and that the board is waiting before proceeding. She did not explain what consideration, if any, was given to the other three members who have volunteered to fill vacant seats.
Later in the meeting, homeowner Carmen Torres spoke regarding a long-standing roof leak affecting her garage and the other three adjacent garages. Carmen explained that the Association's roofing contractor determined that replacement of the entire row of four garage roofs along with rotted wood fascia boards was necessary. However, when work was ultimately performed, only a localized patch repair was completed. Carmen asked why the board chose not to follow the contractor's recommendation and instead authorized a more limited repair. No direct answer was provided. Members pointed out that the Board is obligated by law to discuss such decisions in open meetings, but the Board did not provide any explanation as to how or why the decision was made outside of normal business, although director John Iacona promised that the board would "look into it."
Janet Morris raised the issue of clear notice to members about the start times of meetings noting that most of the members in attendance showed up based on their understanding that the meeting started at 6:00 PM. President Fernandez acknowledged that the monthly newsletter noted the meeting would start at 6:00 PM, while the agenda posted at the swimming pool noted a 5:00 PM start. She explained that the board would be discussing meeting start times for future meetings.
Stonewood Connect will continue to follow these issues and provide updates as additional information becomes available.
