​Large Item Pickup

Are you looking to discard an appliance or other large item that is too big to fit in the trash cans?  Don’t be “that neighbor” who leaves these eyesores outside on the ground.  Getting items hauled away is easy!

 
In the City of South Gate, residents can arrange for free bulky item pickup for items such as appliances, furniture, mattresses, and similar household items through the city’s contracted waste hauler, Universal Waste Systems (UWS).

 
To schedule a pickup, you simply call UWS Customer Service at (562) 334-3660 or contact them by email (SGCustomerService@uwscompany.com); you’ll be asked to provide a list of the items you want collected and confirm the collection date. Residential customers are typically entitled to up to 10 bulky items per month at no charge when scheduled in advance. Items should be placed on the sidewalk or parkway in front of your property on the scheduled pickup day. 

Alternatively, for a fee, residents can also dispose of large non-hazardous waste by taking it right around the corner to the South Gate Transfer Station at 9530 Garfield Avenue, which accepts municipal solid and inert waste during posted hours.
